The classic, much-cherished sketches and folktales collected and enlivened by Fernando Costa de Alfandega.

In the early twentieth century, Alfandega toured the many byways and villages. He was fascinated by the places, characters, anecdotes, traditions and folklore that abound, often in a highly-localised oral history that was unknown and unfamiliar to outsiders.

In feeding his own curiosity with this local folklore and culture, he was inspired to put pen to paper using his own interpretations and imagination, thus bringing these tales deliciously to life for new generations.
